Markus found out that my blog's captcha didn't work. Thanks for finding that. Now I know the reason why I didn't get feedback any more.

Perhaps I'm going to replace captchas with good old moderation. Although this might be a bad idea, since spambots usually produce a lot of comments:

Bürgermeisterkandidat

Ab heute ist es offiziell: Rechtsanwalt Ralf Becker kandidiert für das Bürgermeisteramt in Eriskirch.

Am 5. April ist Bürgermeisterwahl.

Yesterday evening, it has arrived. I'm so excited!

Just after Christmas, I ordered a Lenovo Thinkstation S10, which seems to be a fine workstation with 4GB RAM, quad core Intel processor, nVidia graphics accelerator and SATA hard disk.

After unpacking, i didn't hesitate to boot it up and sure it was loud as hell. At initial startup, all the fans are running at full power to quickly burst for a few seconds. If this monster would have been that loud all the time, I couldn't run it at night or else I would wake up the neighbours living on the other side of the street.

Gemeinderatssitzung

Heute abend ist öffentliche Gemeinderatssitzung in der Gemeinde Eriskirch. Einer der Tagesordnungspunkte (Punkt 4) ist der Bebauungsplan des geplanten Gewerbegebiet Tannesch.

Als Mitglied der Interessengemeinschaft Quo Vadis Eriskirch? werde ich heute abend dabei sein, um mehr Informationen über die Planung zu erhalten und offene Fragen zu klären. Zusätzlich hoffen wir, mit unseren kritischen Fragen einige Bedenken bei den Entscheidern zu wecken, die bisher unserer Meinung zu schnell unter den Teppich gekehrt worden sind oder gar nicht erst evaluiert wurden.

Neue Reifen

Eigentlich hab ich ja diese Woche neue Autoreifen bestellt, weil das aktuelle Profil (bzw. eben das, was davon übrig ist) schon fast als kriminell einzustufen ist. Und nach diesem verregneten und kalten Wochenende ist mir sowieso klargeworden, dass ich bald Winterreifen/MS-Reifen brauche. Ich soll mich diese Woche telefonisch nochmal melden - bestellt sind sie wohl schon, jetzt brauch ich nur noch einen freien Termin bei der Werkstatt meines Vertrauens.

Bei der Gelegenheit könnte ich ja mal so eine Art Rund-um-Prüfung machen lassen. Wintercheck nennt man sowas wohl.

Robert Bosch acquires Innovations

My employer Innovations has been bought by the Robert Bosch Group today. I feel a little bit disoriented right now and i think in the long run, this will be a great opportunity. That's the first time I personally witness a merge between a real-life ("hardware") company like Bosch aquiring a software-only company like Innovations.

On the one hand, i'm happy because I think that Innovations will move on and become even better with the power of Bosch in the back. This could be the birth of some really cool gadgets and technology mixes. On the other hand, it's a large corporation and I don't want to be just a "human resource", struggling against the bureaucracy of such corporations. I'm going to pray to the corporate god that this won't happen to us and we'll stay sovereign, flexible and adaptive.

I hope I don't have to program a washing machine

Tannesch - Quo Vadis Eriskirch

A few years ago in 2005, there was a citizens' initiative to get noise protection against a newly built federal highway. The initiative was called Bürgerinitiative Bürger für Lärmschutz and was successful, due to the energy and passion of the involved people working towards the goal. We got noise protection. It's not perfect, but much better than what has been initially planned by the town.

Now, three years later, our town once again plans something with which some people do not agree. Especially the people living next to the newly planned industrial area are concerned. And once again, there's a citizens' initiative, and this time it's called Interessengemeinschaft Quo Vadis Eriskirch. Lead by Ralf and Manfred, the group protests against the industrial zone and collected 232 signatures from supporting citizens.

We are against an industrial zone in our neighbourhood!

50% vacation done

So, it's Sunday, great weather and half of my holiday is done. There are some new pictures over at my flickr.com, like the ones from Abenteuerpark Immenstaad or from a hike in Weingarten.

What I've done last week, besides chilling and sunbathing: going to a funeral, climbing in the woods, Family hiking, shopping, visiting Kulturufer, doing an iPhone Firmware Upgrade to 2.0 (that sucked - i lost my contacts and had to go back to a one year old backup). So, there's plenty of stuff left to do next week

Wow - 162.1 MB für vier neue Features:

1) Passen Sie Ihren Home-Bildschirm an.
2) Verorten Sie sich.
3) Greifen Sie mit Webclips auf Websites zu.
4) Eine SMS an alle.

Man könnte fast meinen, die Jungs bei Apple verwenden Java und massig Open-Source Libraries. Anders kann ich mir diese Platzverschwendung kaum vorstellen.

Interessant ist auch, dass die iPhone/iTunes-Synchronisierungsfunktion erkennt, dass das iPhone mehrfach abgestürzt ist, und bietet an, die Crash-Logfiles gleich an Apple zu senden. Habe natürlich vorher ein bisschen drin rumgestöbert, was für Infos da so drinstehen. Scheint aber okay zu sein und keine private Information zu enthalten: Prozess-IDs und Stacktraces.

Update: Ortungs-Feature funktioniert nicht im Ausland (Schweiz)
